Vu Phong Energy Group Attends Renewable Energy Workshop in Bangkok

Vu Phong Energy Group’s VP Carbon, represented by Mr. Pham Dang An, Deputy General Director, participated in a significant workshop on “Electricity Market Designs for Renewables in Southeast Asia” held in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 24-25, 2024. The workshop was part of the “Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia” (CASE) project, a collaboration between GIZ and the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP).

Mr. An, representing Vu Phong Energy Group and VP Carbon, actively engaged in discussions with stakeholders at the workshop.

The event united key stakeholders including government agencies, leading renewable energy businesses from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, and international experts. The core objective was to explore the potential of renewable energy in Southeast Asia and to foster collaboration through open dialogue. Discussions focused on how to overcome challenges and promote sustainable growth within the region.

Mr. Sascha Oppowa, Energy Project Director at GIZ, highlighted the contrast between Southeast Asia’s abundant renewable resources and the relatively low current contribution of solar and wind power. He explained that the workshop aimed to identify how existing electricity market designs can be adapted to attract necessary investments and facilitate the integration of renewable sources into evolving power grids.

Delegates explored policy measures to encourage investment in renewable energy and discussed cost-effective integration strategies. The potential of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) for interconnected power systems across the region was also a key topic of discussion, offering opportunities for greater collaboration and resource sharing.

Ultimately, the workshop provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to share insights, address current challenges facing the renewable energy sector, and collectively consider solutions for achieving regional sustainability goals.
