In November 2021, at the COP26 conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced Vietnam’s strong commitment to responding to climate change, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Leaders of nearly 150 countries made similar commitments.
Vietnam and over 100 countries pledged to reduce global methane emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020. Additionally, 141 countries joined the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on forests and land use, while nearly 50 countries participated in a global declaration on transitioning from coal to clean energy.
Following COP26, the outcomes of COP27 (in 2022) and COP28 (held in 2023) indicate that governments are advancing the green transition to tackle climate change, progressively realizing their commitments.
The green transition trend is further propelled by various mechanisms, trade policies, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)… Leading international companies are also at the forefront of this movement. The RE100 initiative, calling for large businesses to commit to 100% renewable energy within the shortest possible time, has gathered over 400 members, including multinational corporations from various industries like IT, automotive, consumer goods, food, and chemicals.
In this context, it can be said that the green transition is not just a trend but an essential journey for businesses.
