TheLIGHT project, a profound community initiative, recently concluded a significant mission to bring sustainable solar power solutions to the remote Makar settlement within Da Quyn commune, Lam Dong province. This endeavor, championed by JCI East Saigon and supported by Vu Phong Energy Group, exemplifies a commitment to enhancing the lives of underprivileged residents in ethnic minority and mountainous regions. By providing access to clean, reliable energy, the TheLIGHT project addresses critical needs and fosters community development, aligning with broader goals of social responsibility and sustainable progress.
The Challenges in Da Quyn
Established in 2009, Da Quyn commune is predominantly inhabited by ethnic minorities. According to the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 900/QD-TTg dated June 20, 2017, Da Quyn was classified as a notably difficult commune from 2016-2020. Significant advancements in production and poverty alleviation efforts have led to improved economic conditions for its residents. By 2021, Da Quyn had progressed to an Area I commune within the ethnic minority and mountainous region category. Despite these improvements, three hamlets within the region continue to face severe disadvantages, with many families in these remote areas lacking essential necessities.
TheLIGHT’s Assistance to Da Quyn
Recognizing these persistent challenges, TheLIGHT, a long-term community project initiated by JCI East Saigon – JCI Vietnam, with the steadfast accompaniment of Vu Phong Energy Group, resolved to extend assistance to Da Quyn. In June 2023, representatives from JCI East Saigon and JCI Dalat conducted a thorough field survey in Makar, a settlement within Da Quyn commune. With crucial support from local authorities, particularly Chairman Duong, Nguyen Van, the survey team visited individual homes and engaged directly with residents to comprehensively understand their daily struggles. These homes are often widely dispersed in remote areas, lacking fundamental infrastructure such as electricity, proper roads, schools, medical stations, clean water, and cellular service.
TheLIGHT team meticulously prepared for the official event on August 12th, when they successfully delivered SolarV solar power generators, along with vital food supplies and clothing, to 17 households in the region. The event was marked by an atmosphere of profound happiness and deep emotion, as the introduction of solar energy promised to significantly enhance the quality of life for these families. This intervention is particularly impactful considering that some residences in Da Quyn had relied exclusively on oil lamps for evening illumination for nearly 15 years since the commune’s establishment, underscoring the transformative potential of clean energy access.
TheLIGHT’s Future Plans
Despite the arduous journey required to reach this secluded location, every member of TheLIGHT project team experienced heartwarming gratification and immense joy upon witnessing the bright eyes and hopeful smiles of the residents. These deeply moving experiences serve as a powerful motivation for TheLIGHT to persist in its mission, continuously spreading and nurturing the aspiration to bring the invaluable gift of light to even more remote regions and deserving households, furthering sustainable community development.

TheLIGHT project is dedicated to bringing essential electricity to areas suffering from power shortages. Since its inception in 2016, TheLIGHT has illuminated thousands of households across various provinces including Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Ben Tre, Binh Phuoc, and Thanh Hoa. Beyond providing crucial solar power generators, TheLIGHT also inspires other community-oriented organizations to contribute by building schools in these deserving localities, fostering broader community development and educational access.
Vu Phong Energy Group’s Contribution
Since 2019, Vu Phong Energy Group has proudly served as a steadfast companion of TheLIGHT, actively joining efforts to extend solar lighting solutions to remote, mountainous, and border regions throughout numerous provinces. This ongoing commitment highlights Vu Phong Energy Group’s dedication to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. In 2022, Vu Phong Energy Group further strengthened its partnership with TheLIGHT, collaborating to deliver solar power to the remote Muong Lat commune in Thanh Hoa and providing crucial assistance to struggling households in Ham Giang, Tra Cu, and Tra Vinh, thereby expanding clean energy access.
